The purposes of establishment: the protection of the environment, the creation of favorable social environment, the protection of the citizen's health. For such work was organized public environmental center in the Baikal region, organized and maintained long-term and short-term projects for the development and preservation of natural heritage.

Main activities and outcomes

The significant activity at the «Baikal-Eco» is conducting the public environmental expertise and public hearings on the projects and project materials planned economic activity.

1. The planned development of the Lake lead-zinc deposit in Yeravninsky district. In April-May 2006, held public environmental review of the project materials. Chairman of the committee was the deputy head of the district on the economy Eravninsky district Zh. E. Erdyneev, executive secretary – I.V. Kozlov, in the expert group included senior fellow at the Baikal Institute of Nature Management SB RAS, Ph.D. A.N. Gulyashinov, a leading researcher at the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, candidate of geological-mineralogical sciences, docent E.V. Kislov, Deputy Director of the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences A.M. Plyusnin.

For examination were presented Declaration of Intent development of pyrite-polymetallic deposit «Ozernoe»; Feasibility Study (draft) of the first stage of development of polymetallic deposit «Ozernoe».

Consolidated expert report with recommendations, suggestions and positive assessment was referred to the expert commission of the state ecological expertise, authorities and local governments, mining companies and the designers brought to the attention of the local and the environmental community. «Baikal-Eco» participated in the public hearing in village Ozernoe, Sosnovo-Ozerskoe, Ulan-Ude in May 2006. The results of the examination and public hearings were widely covered by the media, news agencies and the Internet.

2. The planned development Kholodninsky lead-zinc deposits in the Severobaikalsky district. In January 2007, was held the public environmental assessment of project materials. Chairman of the expert committee - leading researcher GIN SB RAS, Associate Professor E.V. Kislov; Experts: Senior Researcher BIP SB RAS A.N. Gulyashinov, Deputy Director GIN RAS, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences A.M. Plyusnin, Institute of General and Experimental Biology professor N.M. Pronin, chairman of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North Severobaikalsky district G.F. Rogov.

For examination were presented Declaration of Intent development polymetallic deposit «Kholodninskoye» Buryat Republic, Vol. 1 «Basic Design solutions»; Feasibility Study (draft) 1-st stage mining of polymetallic deposit «Kholodninskoye» (opening and preparation of reserves) in 4 volumes. Consolidated expert report with recommendations, suggestions and positive assessment was referred to the expert commission of the state ecological expertise, authorities and local governments, mining companies and the designers brought to the attention of the local and the environmental community. «Baikal-Eco» participated in the public hearing in village Kholodnoe, v. Nizhneangarsk, Ulan-Ude in January-February 2007, the results of the examination and public hearings widely covered by the media, news agencies and the Internet.

3. The proposed construction of a mining and processing enterprise on the basis Ermakovskoe deposits of beryllium ores in Kizhinginsky district. In October and November 2007 was held public environmental assessment project materials. Chairman of the expert committee - Leading Researcher GIN RAS, associate professor E.V. Kislov; Experts: Senior Researcher BINM SB RAS E.V. Zoltoev, Deputy Director GIN RAS A.M. Plyusnin, Researcher IOIEB SB RAS D.V. Matafonov.

For examination were presented Declaration (petition) of intent for construction mining factory and processing enterprise on the basis Ermakovskoe deposits of beryllium ores and construction project of mining and processing enterprise on the basis Ermakovskoe deposits beryllium ores of 16 volumes except for 8, 14, 15 volumes.

Consolidated expert report with recommendations, suggestions and positive assessment was referred to the expert commission of the state ecological expertise, authorities and local governments, mining companies and the designers brought to the attention of the local and the environmental community. «Baikal-Eco» participated in the public hearing in villages Novokizhinginsk, Edermeg, Kizhinga, and Ulan-Ude in November 2007. The results of the examination and the public hearings were widely covered by the media, news agencies and the Internet.

4. Public hearings on waste management. Members of the organization took part in organizing and conducting public discussion materials justification of the proposed activity to collect, use, neutralization, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste «Ozernoe mine» in village Ozernoe of Yeravninsky district June 22, 2008

5. The planned development of the Lake lead-zinc deposit in Yeravninsky district. In February 2011, was held public environmental assessment impact assessment on the environment on the project «Ozernoe Mine (Republic of Buryatia) and its infrastructure». Chairman of the commission - a leading researcher, acting Head of the Laboratory of the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences E.V. Kislov, in the expert group included: Director of the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, G.I. Tatkov, deputy director of the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, A.M. Plyusnin, Senior Researcher, Institute of Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies, SB RAS B.B. Dashibalov, a senior researcher at the BINM SB RAS A.N. Gulyashinov, a senior researcher at the Institute of General and Experimental Biology B.B. Badmaev.

Consolidated expert report with recommendations, suggestions and positive assessment was referred to the expert commission of the state ecological expertise, authorities and local governments, mining companies and the designers brought to the attention of the local and the environmental community. «Baikal-Eco» participated in the public hearing in villages Ozernoe and Sosnovo-Ozerskoe in February 2011. The results of the examination and public hearings are widely was illuminated were the media, news agencies and the Internet.

6. The planned development of Ozernoe  lead-zinc deposit in Yeravninsky district. In June 2011, underwent repeat public environmental assessment evaluation the environmental impact of the project «Ozernoe mine (Buryat Republic) and Chairman of the commission – E.V. Kislov, members of expert group - G.I. Tatkov, A.M. Plyusnin, A.N. Gulyashinov.

Consolidated expert report with recommendations, suggestions and positive assessment was referred to the expert committee of the Main State examination bodies and local authorities, mining companies and the designers brought to the information and local environmental community.

«Baikal-Eco» participated in the public hearing in village Sosnovo-Ozerskoe in June 2011 results of the examination and public hearings were widely covered by the media, news agencies and the Internet.

Scientific conferences

Members of the organization regularly take part in organizing and conducting research conferences on economic development and environmental well-being of the Baikal region: All-Russian Conference «Geochemistry and mineralization of radioactive and rare metals in endogenous and exogenous processes» (Ulan-Ude, 2007), international conference «Problems of Geology, Mineral Resources and geoecology in West-Transbaikalia» (Ulan-Ude, 2007), All-Russian Workshop «Ore-bearing ultramafic-mafitum and carbonatite complexes of folded regions» (v. Enkhaluk, Kabansky District, 2012), IV and III International Conference Youth Workshop «Ultrabasite-mafic complexes of folded regions and their Minerageny» (v. Baikalsky Priboy Kabansky District, 2012), III All-Russian Scientific-Practical Conference «Minerageny of Northeast Asia» dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Department of Geology Buryat State University (Ulan-Ude, 2012), IV All-Russian Scientific-Practical Conferenc «Geodynamics and metallogeny of North-East Asia», dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Geological

Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Educational activities

Members of the organization are constantly appear in the mass media: magazine «World of Baikal» newspaper «Buryatia», «Youth of Buryatia», «Science in Siberia» on TV-channels «Tivikom»,«Arig Us» and others. A series of articles published in academic publication «Geography and natural resources», published in the sections of the encyclopedia «Baikal: nature and the people» and «Buryatia».

Head of the organization E.V. Kislov elected chairman of the Commission on Environment and Nature of the Public Chamber of the Republic of Buryatia, Deputy Chairman Public Council under the Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Republic of Buryatia, a member of the Public Environmental Council of the Government of the Republic. Organization «Baikal-Eco» unable to mediate multilateral collision of interest arising from the implementation of new business initiatives. for this involving different representatives of the scientific community and journalists.

Prospects

- Tracking and comprehensive discussion of new business initiatives, and not only in the within the Baikal region;

- Promoting cost-effective, eco-friendly projects;

- Research;

- Media coverage of environmental issues.
